How to Take Good Care of your Body
If you happen to see a human anatomy chart, do you ever wonder how organized and systematic our organs were arranged? The function of one organ never conflicts the function of the other one. And our physical appearance? You can never see someone with the same face as yours. For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well (Psalm 139:13-14). This is just one of the thousand proofs that we are uniquely made by God, that we are different from His other creations. We are his greatest masterpiece.
If we are his greatest masterpiece, we are also obliged to take good care of it. So, how can we take good care of our body? Is it of an important matter?
John 2:12-25
Jesus revealed here how important his Father’s house is to Him. When he arrived in Jerusalem, at the temple, he saw men selling cattle, sheep and doves and others sitting at tables exchanging money. He got furious so he drove away all the animals and also flipped the money changer’s tables so the coins scattered around. Jesus said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!” Then the Jews demanded, “What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” Then Jesus replied, “Destroy this temple and I will raise it again for 3 days.” The Jews were shocked because the temple was built in 46 years and suddenly someone would claim that he can rebuild it in only 3 days?
But Jesus didn’t meant this literally.
His disciples knew that the temple He was talking about was His body. That after 3 days, He was raised from the dead and they knew all the things He had said. After that, they had believed in the scriptures and the words that Jesus had spoken.
See how Jesus valued so much the temple and His body. But, what is in common between the two words that made Jesus value both?
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” With Jesus, the temple and His body are of the same value because God is in his body and for that, His body is now a temple of God where He dwells in.
He showed how much He values the temple by removing all the people that are ruining its reputation. Just like our body is also a temple of God where the Holy Spirit lives in. We should also remove all the things that can ruin the reputation of our body which in turn can ruin God as well. That is why taking good care of our body is of an important matter. Remember, God lives in you. If you destroy your body, you are destroying God’s temple, and you are destroying Him as well.
So, how can we really take good care of our body?
1. Watch what enters your physical senses.
2 Corinthians 7:1 says “Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God”. Let nothing enter our body that will not purify us. Preserve its sacredness as we preserve God’s sacredness because God lives in us.
2. Work and Rest
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8) We should not ALWAYS work only nor ALWAYS rest only. Rather, we should always WORK AND REST. Our body needs to be used but it also needs to be rested, just as God rested after He created everything.
3. Give maximum life in quality and quantity.
Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away (Psalm 90:10). We don’t know when our body will return to dust. So, we should maximize our life in quality and quantity.
Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, the temple of God. It is really important that we take good care of it because above all of His creations, we are the greatest. If we left our body weak and ruined, it can affect everything (mental, SPIRITUAL, emotional, physical). Also, God likes to reveal Himself to the world through our body activities. As a result, we should make ourselves a living sacrifice to God. Giving all yourself to him is the greatest act of worship.
Let God enjoy His stay in your temple. Honour God with/ in your body. Let your body parts serve God! ♥
